SUMMARY

  • Courtland Sutton
  • Kadarius Toney
  • Matthew Stafford
  • Cooper Kupp

1. Courtland Sutton

UPDATE 2: Sutton (hamstring) is out for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, according to Aric DiLalla of the Broncos’ official website.

UPDATE: According to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett told reporters on Wednesday that it’s “not looking good” for Sutton (hamstring) to play against the Chiefs on Sunday.

This latest injury update on Sutton corresponds with what we heard earlier this week from Hackett, who stated that the veteran wide receiver was “day-to-day” with the soft tissue injury.

Sutton sustained the injury late in last week’s game against the Ravens.

If Sutton is ruled out, Jerry Jeudy becomes a low-tier WR2 in fantasy this week against a Chiefs defense that has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to WRs this season.

Kendall Hinton, like Jeudy, becomes a fantasy-relevant flex option in Week 14.

Hinton had one reception for 11 yards last week, but he had 12 receptions (17 targets) for 154 yards in the Broncos’ previous three games.

2. Kadarius Toney

UPDATE 2: Toney (hamstring), who the Chiefs ruled out for Sunday’s game at Denver, is expected to return to action against the Texans in Week 15.

UPDATE: According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, Toney (hamstring) is participating in Thursday’s practice for the Chiefs.

Toney (hamstring) took part in a limited practice on Wednesday ahead of the Chiefs’ game against the Broncos.

The second-year wide receiver has missed the last two games since suffering a soft-tissue injury against the Chargers in Week 11.

It’s nice in seeing Toney back at practice this week after missing all of last week.

He has a good chance of playing on Sunday if he can make it through a full week of practice.

He may not be worth starting, however, because the Broncos’ defense allows the fewest fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season.

Since Toney’s absence, there has been an increase in targets for veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who has emerged as the Chiefs’ vertical threat within their offense, and Skyy Moore, but the situation remains uncertain for virtually all Chiefs pass-catchers other than Travis Kelce.

3. Matthew Stafford

UPDATE 2: According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Rams head coach Sean McVay stated on Friday that Stafford will not require any type of procedure while recovering from a spinal cord contusion.

UPDATE: Stafford’s neck injury isn’t a long-term issue, according to coach Sean McVay, and the quarterback is expected to have a “healthy offseason,” according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic.

This essentially confirms Stafford’s season is over, as expected after he was placed on injured reserve prior to Sunday’s loss to Seattle due to a spinal cord contusion.

However, this appears to be a promising future update, as a healthy offseason should allow Stafford to iron out some of the kinks that led to a disappointing 2022 season.

4. Cooper Kupp

Cupp will be out for six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his right high-ankle sprain on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Last season, Kupp led all wide receivers in the following categories: snaps, targets, receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, expected touchdowns, touches, yards per route run, and, of course, fantasy points.

Kupp outscored the next-closest wide receiver by 96 fantasy points and finished as a top-12 scorer at the position 15 of 17 weeks. Kupp has consistently dominated after the catch, finishing in the top 12 in RAC in each of his five NFL seasons.

It’s reasonable to expect Kupp to slow down this season, especially given that he’s now 29 years old and has missed three of the last five NFL seasons, but he’s still a lock for a significant target share in one of the league’s top offenses. He should be taken early in Round 1.
