Latest news on Rudy Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards

T-Wolves have gained the edge they need to reach the postseason but still have a lot on the line Saturday afternoon when they face the Spurs.

Minnesota are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference with two games remaining in the regular season and a record of 40-40.

The Timberwolves can’t fall below the ninth seed even if they lose their last two games, but they can move up if they win and other results go their way.

The Timberwolves haven’t played since their 107-102 road victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. The Timberwolves’ season concludes with a home game against the Pelicans on Sunday afternoon, so they’ll fly back to Minnesota following Saturday’s game.

The Timberwolves ended a three-game losing streak against the Nets behind 23-point efforts from Anthony Edwards and 22 from Karl-Anthony Towns, the latter of which came on a pair of late free throws that broke a tie.

Towns also pulled down 14 boards, helping the Timberwolves recover from a loss in which he attempted only three shots.

In the official injury report, Towns’ status for Saturday’s game against the Spurs is listed as questionable.

Although Towns and head coach Chuck Finch have said that the big man plans to play in both halves of the Timberwolves’ back-to-back set, the injury report still lists him as questionable. Unless there is a drastic change in strategy, Towns will likely continue to start for the team.

Towns is coming off his first double-double after returning from a lengthy absence due to a calf issue, and his averages in the six games since his return are 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.

In addition to Edwards and Towns, the Spurs should keep an eye on Rudy Gobert in this game. Gobert’s recent play has not been well received, but any degree of subjectivity is costly.
