Are the Chicago Cubs trying to sign Dansby Swanson?

The acquisition of former NL MVP Cody Bellinger is a good start, and it appears that they are also looking for a star shortstop.

The Atlanta Braves, according to Ken Rosenthal of the team, believe SS Dansby Swanson is their most “realistic” target if they do not go all-in on Carlos Correa.

Swanson has been a Braves standout since his debut in 2016. The former first-round pick hit last year. In 162 games for Atlanta, he had 277 hits, 25 home runs, and 96 RBI.

Swanson, who is being pursued by a number of teams, has yet to meet with the Cubs. The Braves remain interested in keeping him.

Chicago reportedly met with Correa and his agent Scott Boras in San Diego earlier this week and appears to be interested in him. You’d think Jed Hoyer and company would go after one or the other, but could they go after both?

I mean, it’s not entirely impossible. The Texas Rangers did just that last winter, inking two massive contracts for shortstops Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. The latter was given second base.

Hoyer appears to have been given complete freedom by the Ricketts ownership family to spend as much as he needs to get the Cubs back into contention as soon as possible. Adding Correa and Swanson would be a significant step forward.
