The 23-year-old daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp said she was ‘careful’ about the nepo baby phenomenon.

Lily disclosed that she struggles with imposter syndrome and the paranoia that comes with fame.

The former model turned successful actress is getting ready for the premiere of her much-anticipated HBO show The Idol later this year, and she is set to become a household name.

The troubled singer Jocelyn (Depp) who tries to reclaim her title as “the sexiest pop star in America” is at the center of the steamy drama, which was written by multiplatinum megastar Abel “The Weeknd” Testfaye.

Lily discussed her struggles with imposter syndrome and making it to the A-list at such a young age in an interview with i-D.

‘You just have to jump in and have some kind of faith that, if they’ve chosen me, then hopefully I’ve been chosen for a reason. That’s all that you can do.

‘By that same token, I think that there’s nothing more exciting than being like, “Wow, I’m so nervous. I feel so challenged by this. How on earth am I going to pull this off?” You could ask for no better fuel to make you want to work really, really hard.’

The stunning Chanel representative elaborated on the concept of using fear as motivation, saying: ‘If you’re not scared, then what’s the point? I like the fear a little bit.’

The nepo baby controversy, which has long irritated Lily, was another topic they covered.

‘I’m so careful about these conversations now,’ she said. ‘I feel like my parents did the best job that they possibly could at giving me the most “normal childhood” that they could. And obviously, that still was not a normal childhood.’

Lily went on to elaborate on her privileged position, saying: ‘I’m super aware of the fact that my childhood did not look like everybody’s. But at the same time, it’s all that I know, so I have had to find comfort in it somehow.

‘I’m really lucky that I’ve been surrounded by people who value normalcy and who value real life and I think that’s the only way to exist in this world and not go insane.’

To some extent, Lily’s anxiety and paranoia can be attributed to her upbringing as the daughter of two huge celebrities.

‘I can’t smoke weed unless I’m in my room,’ she revealed. ‘It f**ks with my head. I overthink, like, if I leave my house and I look like shit and someone takes a photo, is it going to be, “She looks like hell, she must be depressed?” People are so quick to want to be like, “You’re doing badly.” ‘

Lilly copes by reminding herself that ‘everybody cares more about themselves’ and tries to come ‘back down to earth.’

‘At the end of the day, everybody cares more about themselves than they do you,’ she said. ‘I bring myself back down to earth and go, ‘Girl, you don’t matter that much.” That’s the only way to deal with it.’

However, the young celebrity is fully cognizant of her privileged position, saying, ‘…I am privileged enough to get to do the job that I’m so passionate about.

‘There’s good and bad sides to everything,’ she added. ‘If I have to deal with a little bit of anxiety to keep doing what I love, then I’m ready.’

Lily-Rose dismissed the notion that she has gotten parts because of her family connections in an interview with Elle last November.

‘Nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part,’ she declared. ‘The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things.’

‘Maybe you can get your foot in the door,’ Depp conceded, ‘but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.’

And Lily-Rose admitted that she isn’t getting used to the spotlight: ‘The older I get, the weirder I become.’

The young actress referred to her recent high-profile role as ‘double-edged sword,’ highlighting the inevitable drawbacks of further fueling her stardom.

‘I’m not here to give myself to the world to be eaten alive,’ she said.

Depp told i-D that her role in The Idol is a dream come true: ‘I’ve dreamt of roles like this for forever. I just don’t think that you could give an actress a greater gift than a role like this.

‘This has been the most meaningful and important project that I’ve ever done, and the thing that I’m the proudest of. I don’t know where to begin.’
