Dallas has lost both of its games featuring Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, but the team still has time to iron out the problems.

The Mavericks seemed to gain confidence after losing by only three points to the Timberwolves on Monday night.

Both Doncic and Irving concluded with double-digit scoring performances (33 and 36 points, respectively), with 26 of those points coming in the game’s final frame.

Finally, in the final seconds, when the Mavericks could have tied the game, Irving threw it away.

It’s possible that the Mavericks will get some new players soon, but they won’t be ready to face Jokic until after the All-Star break.

The news that LaMarcus Aldridge will be working out for Dallas the next day was reported on ESPN on Monday night.

Aldridge, a seven-time NBA All-Star, has yet to make an appearance for the Nets this year despite averaging 12.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 47 games last year.

The addition of Aldridge to the Mavericks would provide them more depth in the frontcourt and an additional defensive option. Dorian Finney-Smith, one of Dallas’ best defenders, was sent to the Nets in exchange for Irving.

Reggie Jackson is reportedly joining the Denver Nuggets following the All-Star break. Following the trade deadline, when Charlotte acquired Jackson from the Los Angeles Clippers, they exercised their option to buy him out.

THE NUGGETS

They may not have enough players for tonight’s game against the Mavericks.

Without Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon, the Denver Nuggets may be nervous about their upcoming game against the Dallas Mavericks, but they can take heart from their recent victories over the Mavericks.

Denver beat the Mavericks 98-97 on the road on November 20 without Murray, Gordon, or Nikola Jokic.

The Mavericks have a chance to sweep the Nuggets if they can repeat their one-point victory from December 6 in Denver on Wednesday night.

Coach Michael Malone has theorized that Murray may have been trying to avoid further injury to his surgically repaired left knee during his five-game absence due to pain in his right knee.

The Nuggets have kept him out of the lineup despite the fact that the injury is not thought to be overly serious.

Although both Murray and Gordon have been listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game, Murray is more likely to miss the contest so that his injured knee can rest for the full three weeks that the All-Star break provides.

Gordon has missed most of the season due to injuries sustained early on, primarily a left rib contusion that forced him to miss two games and an ongoing shoulder issue.

Denver has had to make adjustments without their second and third leading scorers.

They won in Charlotte on Saturday and in Miami on Monday to finish their road trip with a 2-1 record. Despite Wednesday, they will still be the best team in the Western Conference.

The Nuggets bench was important in their 112-108 victory over the Heat, despite Nikola Jokic’s 27 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.
