Trae Young, the Hawks’ star guard, has not been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Pelicans. Young went to practice with the team on Friday before heading to a doctor’s appointment.

After suffering an eye injury early in the third quarter, the 24-year-old was forced to leave the team’s game against the Knicks on Wednesday.

As he drove to the basket and attempted a pass to the left corner, Knicks forward Julius Randle scratched Young’s eye. Young stated that he was still looking at the ball as Randle completed his pass.

The two-time All-Star returned to the match in the fourth quarter on Wednesday after the Hawks’ training staff attended to his eye and did everything, they could prevent any infectious diseases.

He stated after Wednesday’s game that he does not expect his injury to keep him out of Saturday’s game.

“I think I’d be able to play through it. It’s more just letting the swelling go down,” Young said after the game. “But I’ll be able to play through it. I mean, I think our next game is Saturday, so thankfully, we get a couple of days to kind of get better and hopefully I’m able to. I’ll probably have to wear goggles or glasses for some games, but it’ll be all right.”

Young had 17 points, six rebounds, and seven assists in Wednesday’s game. His lone field goal in the second half came just before the halftime break. Young has led the team in points per game this season, averaging 27.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 9.4 assists in eight games.

UPDATE: Young is officially listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Pelicans due to an eye contusion suffered on Wednesday.

If Zion Williamson stays healthy, the Pelicans have a chance to climb the Western Conference standings this season.

Thanks to a core of Williamson, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, and some intriguing young pieces, New Orleans is a trendy not-so-sleeper pick out West this year.

This will be a tough matchup for the Hawks, who need to win at home during this difficult stretch of the schedule.

After defeating the Golden State Warriors at home on Friday evening, New Orleans will play the second game of a back-to-back on Saturday.

Trae Young (left eye contusion) is listed as questionable after taking a hit from Julius Randle earlier in the week, though it would be surprising if he doesn’t play after returning to the game on Wednesday wearing goggles.
